In 1915, the land where Prairie Island now sits was deeded to the city of Winona by John A. Latsch, a successful grocer from the area. Latsch was an avid outdoorsman, passionate about recreation, and made the donation as part of his vision to maintain public access to recreational areas. Prairie Island Campground is the property of the City of Winona, and managed by Jamie Schell and Anne Conway of Front Porch Management, LLC. The intention for maintaining the space at Prairie Island Campground begins with honoring Latsch’s intention, striking a balance between public access to recreation and responsible management of the resource.
At Prairie Island Campground, there are 175 total sites, 107 with water and electric hook-ups and 68 primitive sites with 5 shared water spigots centrally spaced throughout. Use of the dump station is included with site rentals and we offer a Saturday morning septic pumping service for $20. Special trip pumping service is available for $50 - Theis Pumping 507-458-8800.
