trails for hiking & biking

The river valleys offer flat terrain or gently rolling hills and spectacular views of rivers and bluffs. For the hiker and mountain biker, BLUFDSIDE PARK TRAIL SYSTEM has over 14 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails for all skill levels. The steep bluffs challenge those looking for a more vigorous adventure. The SUGAR LOAF trail offers a work-out hike with a view. If the desire is to roll safely and smoothly on paved trails with the whole family, the LAKE PARK PATH offers five-miles for walking, biking, roller-blading, roller-skiing, and roller-skating. For the road biker that deeply appreciates all that elevation changes on paved roads have to offer, check out the WINONA COUNTY BIKE LOOPS.

Those wanting to stroll through the river bottoms, or connect with the packed gravel GREAT RIVER TRAIL SYSTEM in Wisconsin, there is the new FLYWAY CONNECTOR trail. A days ride through Trempealeau to Onalaska and La Crosse, Wisconsin from Winona is more accessible than ever, winding quietly along lakes and streams and through woods and fields.

Heading to the bluffs of Winona not only offers a broader perspective with breathtaking vistas, but also provides opportunities for deepening hikes, mountain biking, gravel trail and road riding, as well as rock climbing. The bluffs are the reason TRINONA TRIATHLON is a highly sought after race. If racing is of interest, check out all of the accessible opportunities that STORM THE TRAIL RACE SERIES has to offer. Come to train, to saunter, as John Muir would say, or just to get a good look at the river valley in all its beauty.

The Sugarloaf!

A trail heads up to Winona’s visual landmark! You can be taking in the views, ready to rock climb, in about 20 minutes.

Big River Climbing Guides are experts in taking those rock climbing that have never been. The Sugarloaf offers routes for first-time climbers as well as routes that have been used as the training grounds for El Cap. Where else can you climb, hike or saunter, mountain bike bluffs, and paddle the backwaters of the Mississippi?
